Global Gratitude Reach

Dance Anywhere 2015 on Maui

With today’s social media, we have the opportunity to positively impact our world with a larger reach than ever before. We can direct our thoughts, words, movements and posts towards global inspiration, beauty, peace, love, aliveness, unity, goodness, worthiness, illumination, self knowledge, joy and freedom. Many of us have friends in other countries we’ve visited that we can stay in touch with on Facebook. Additionally, Instagram offers a venue to connect with and enjoy people with common interests worldwide, even those we may have never met!

Another way to connect globally is through the Arts, including Dance. The Arts provide an arena where diverse, multicultural expressions are enjoyed, shared and celebrated around the world. One example of this, Dance Anywhere, started in 2005 by Beth Fein, and is a movement that combines World Peace and World Gratitude through participation in a Global Public Art event. Once a year in late March, this event invites all to see what happens if the world stopped to dance at the same time (noon in California, 9am in Hawaii, 3 pm in Florida and 8 pm in Europe).  While we may not know the full impact of our in-sync connection, the Joy from participating is palpable.  Inevitably, participants comment how fun it would be to do this every week. Since 2010, Dancing Gratitude has participated in and helped produce a local venue (Maui and Sarasota) for Dance Anywhere.

The video below captures Maui’s participation in this year’s Dance Anywhere event.  “Reach” was choreographed by Annie Stackhouse so that anyone could participate, without a rehearsal.  How might you R e a c h out to the world in appreciation and peace through dance, social media and more?
